Release ‘not like Fulcher’
PA Auckland A young woman, released from prison after serving only 18 months of a fiveyear jail term for heroin dealing, says her case bears no resemblance to that of Peter Fulcher. Miss May-Ling Sie was given her freedom through Vice-Regal decree in March after helping police crack a big heroin importing ring. She was sentenced to seven years imprisonment on heroin-supplying charges in October, 1982. That sentence was reduced to five years by the Court of Ap-
peal. Miss Sie, aged 28, said last evening that her case was different from that of Fulcher, released from jail in Australia last month after serving only four years of his 18-year sentence for heroin smuggling. Fulcher was released two days after a warrant for his arrest was issued in Sydney on behalf of the New Zealand police. Miss Sie said she was not wanted on any other charges when she was released and had established a “history of repentance." Earlier report, page 2.
