Alliance wants more police
PA Wellington The New Zealand Temperance Alliance wants an increase in police numbers to enforce new liquor laws proposed by the Government. The alliance has said that liquor outlets had increased from about 1952. in 1974 to about 5400 in 1984, and this was coupled with a “steep increase in serious crime.” Present police numbers were insufficent to patrol all outlets adequately and the Government should increase the numbers, the alliance said.
