One point lead

PA Auckland North Shore and Canterbury continue their neck-and-neck battle for women's national cricket supremacy after the latest Hansell's Cup round in Auckland yesterday. Both teams scored outright wins — Shore against Southern Districts and Canterbury against Central Districts — but Shore edged to within one point of the southerners by taking seven bonus points to Canterbury’s five.

Penny Kinsella scored nearly half Central Districts' runs in its first innings against the reigning champion, Canterbury, with 66 of the total of 137 for six. Canterbury scored 217 for seven in its 70 overs and then skittled Central for 128 in the second innings, with Sue Rattray outstanding in the Canterbury attack, taking seven for 52.' Canterbury scored the 48 runs required for maximum points without losing a wicket.
