Burletta looks set to win again

From

J. J. BOYLE

Auckland Burletta showed formidable powers as a metric miler with her record breaking win in the King’s Plate at Ellerslie last Friday. In that kind of form she looks a second-to-none chance in the $60,000 Flag Inns Trophy Race, second leg of the Auckland Racing Club’s T.A.B. double today.

There have probably been stronger fields for this feature race on the final day of the Auckland Cup meeting but Clear Gold, Abit Leica, Shifnal Prince, Silver Row and Page Boy

have displayed real talent at this distance and they should supply the main strength of the opposition for Burletta. The Levin-trained Atrapar is another interesting candidate and will be attempting to retrieve something of his reputation after being ill-used in the running of yesterday’s Railway Handicap. Atrapar caught some of the backwash in a mix-up about halfway through the race, was pushed to the wide outside and lost all chance. Duanette’s Girl appears to be one of the stronger chances in the Gateway Lodge Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double. Strongest chances among the others could be Nicolove and Maggie Bee. At the time of going to press, the Auckland fields were not available.
