Artfull forums

A special series of art forums will be held at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery to end the “Artfull” exhibition. The forums, from January 20 to February 10, will aim to extend knowledge of the gallery’s permanent collection. Speakers from the forums include lecturers from the University of Canterbury and from the gallery. The first forum on January 20 (3 p.m.) will be presented by J. Mane, a lecturer in Art History at the University of Canterbury. It is called “Victorian Paintings in the McDougall Collection.” On Tuesday, January 22, at 7.45 p.m., R. Vaietine will discuss ceramics in the collection. On Sunday, January 27 (3 p.m.) the gallery’s French works will be examined by J. King of the Fine Arts Department at the university. A week later, also at 3 p.m., D. Peebles, a senior university lecturer, will talk about the contemporary works held by the gallery. On February 7 (10.30 a.m.) Neil Roberts, the gallery’s curator will discuss the “History of the McDougall’s Collection and the Current

Acquisition Policies.” Other forums, which have still to be arranged, are Canterbury painting in the 1950 s and 1960 s (John Coley) and prints in the collection. On Sunday, February 10, at 3 p.m., the final forum will be an open forum at which the public will be able to discuss the collection with a panel of speakers.
