Arts for peace

The first IDRIART festival in the Southern Hemisphere and the first of a series to take place in 1985 in California, Brazil, Norway, France, Yugoslavia and Hungary, will be held in Napier. The festival will take place from January 10 to 15. The motivation for the IDRIART festival comes from the inspiration of Miha Pogacnik, world renowned concert violinist who toured New Zealand in April, 1984. “Peace through the Arts” is his mission and the theme of the IDRIART festivals. Aimed at bringing people together in deeper understanding and appreciation of music and the arts, the festival has a unique programme. Mornings begin with a lecture series around the theme of Man and the Arts and are followed by

artistic courses for festival participants in painting, sculpture, eurythmy, clay, graphic art, speech, gymnastics, or master classes given by Miha Pogacnik and Diedre Irons and open to the public. A long afternoon break is followed by performances at 4 p.m., an evening meal together and then introductions by the artists to the works and composers to be performed that night. The major evening performances will be given by Miha Pogacnik, Diedre Irons, Auckland String Quartet, Threshold Theatre Company from Christchurch, and the Auckland Regional Orchestra.

IDRIART is a charitable trust in New Zealand and a member of the world wide IDRIART movement based in Geneva.
