U.N. research award
PA Wellington The section head of the Rotorua Forest Institute, Dr Jim Bourke, has been awarded an Andre Mayer research fellowship by the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations. Dr Bourke is the first New Zealander to receive an Andre Mayer fellowship in forestry and one of only three ; . Mayer fellowships gained by New Zealanders. He will spend 18 months
studying protection methods used by exporting and importing countries and the likely effects on forest products trade in the future. He will be based at the Resources for the Future research organisation in Washington D.C. from February. The fellowships are awarded by the F.A.O. every two years for research into specific topics, and are competed for internationally.
