Coronal fancied in Manawatu feature

Special correspondent Wellington As the series of big miles gets closer, the Feilding galloper, Coronal, gets a chance to pick up some holiday expenses when he runs in the $lO,OOO Summer Cup at the Manawatu Racing Club’s meeting at Awapuni today. Initially Coronal is being set for the $60,000 Flag Inns Trophy Race at Ellerslie in a week’s time. To follow are further lucrative metric miles at the Wellington Cup meeting next month. The Summer Cup has attracted a class field which also includes Commissionaire, Mr Trick, Bronze

Valley, The Filbert, Il Vento and Silver Samurai. Commissionaire, which is booked to race at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day, might at this stage, find 1600 m a bit short. But Mr Trick will be a big chance. He was resuming from a spell when he flashed home late for a third behind Burletta and Bronze Valley at Trentham three weeks ago. Bronze Valley and Silver Samurai, first and second in the Festival Handicap on the course last Saturday, look good chances again. After her second in the Manawatu Cup on Saturday, Aptitude looks to have a fine chance of winning the Super Liquorman Handicap, the second leg of the double. Aptitude is an Auckland Cup entry and a win here will boost her prospects of getting in the cup field. Bess, which will be trying class one for the first time, is a solid staying type which has previous winning form on the course. She is expected to make a bold showing. Zeb, which won three on the trot before his last-start fourth at Avondale late in

October, might not find this distance beyond him although he is fresh. Selections 11.25: Exemplify, Majestic Princess, Nevada Prince 12.05: Huron, Ben Bolton, Love Money. 12.45: Fiddlers Three, Star Hope, Malcomem. 1.25: Metro, Rhonda, Santaray. 2.05: Coronal, Mr Trick, Commissionaire. 2.45: So Discreet, Prinsisa Bae, Nuclear Power. 3.25: Aptitude, Bess, Zeb. 4.05: Kosha, Chance for Gold, Lacka Reason. 4.45: Many Things, Fast Track, Defend.
