Surgery after a donkey bite

A housewife bitten yesterday morning by a donkey at the Willowbank Wildlife Reserve, Harewood, underwent surgery at Burwood Hospital last evening. Mrs Suzanne Tomlinson suffered injuries to two fingers and a thumb as she rescued her young daughter from the donkey about 9.30 a.m. Mrs Tomlinson was reported in a fairly comfortable condition in Burwood Hospital late last evening. The - donkey had seized her daughter by the arm.

Mr Michael Willis, director of the wildlife reserve, in Hussey Road, could not be reached for comment last evening. Mrs Tomlinson and her daughter were taken to Christchurch Hospital by ambulance for treatment soon after the incident. They were later transferred to Burwood Hospital. Mrs Tomlinson’s daughter was not believed to have been seriously hurt. The Willowbank reserve has about six donkeys.
