Walker edges closer
PA Auckland The world mile recordholder, John Walker, bettered four minutes for the distance for the ninety-third time last night. Before an enthusiastic crowd of 1000 at East Coast Bays stadium, he clocked 3min 56.505. Minutes later he was talking
about No. 94, perhaps at Mount Smart Stadium on Saturday. Kevin Ingle (Pukekohe) led the field of 14 through the first quarter in 58.60 s and the half in 2min. Half a lap later, however. Walker was 30 yards clear. A 57.5 s last quarter (from a 2min 59s split) was enough to get Walker closer to his goal of 100 sub-four-min. miles.
