Merely Magic in fine form
The promising unbeaten youngster Merely Magic continued his great run of form by winning the C2 event (560 m at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club’s Sweepstake meeting at Queen Elizabeth II Park yesterday after noon. After beginning quickly from the outside draw, Merely Magic was soon in control and won by a length and a half from April Storm, which finished strongly, with Lady Tiree a further 4 lengths away third. The winner’s time was 34.45. Streaking Kilty looked smart in winning the C 3 event (560 m in 34.65. Well back in the early stages, Streaking Kilty made ground strongly in the straight and grabbed the pacemaker, Bionic Bess, just short of the post to win by half a length. Wee Minch fought on for third, a further two lengths away with the rest in a gap of five
lengths. Cranog Jet looked sharp in leading throughout to win a C 3 sprint event in a fast 19.35 (for 330 m). Silent Queen headed to chase, but was two lengths away at the finish.
Charmed Flight (Silent Mirage—Flying Violet) was an impressive maiden graduate in winning by six lengths in 34.96 (for 560 m). Well back early, Charmed Flight gathered the field in, and then cleared away in the straight. Other winners were: Master Remo, Selena Khan, Tri-a-Mint, Lee Moran, Blue Pardons (560 m and Beaumaris, Crafty Kim, Heather’s Moon, Antagonist Duke, Spooky Mirage, Mirage Star, Speckled Hunter, Silky Laurel, Silent Oasis (330 m Kainga Lass finished strongly to win the only distance event of the day (805 m beating Alvarez and Daphne’s Disco and cutting the journey out in a splinded 50s.
