Two more escape from Paparua

Two men, whom the police say should be treated with caution, escaped from Paparua Prison yesterday afternoon. Stephan James Malcolm, aged 18, and Barry John Wiki, also known as Barry John Hills, aged 31, climbed over a wall at the prison's exercise yard and fled about 3.30 p.m. Malcolm is described as European, of medium build, about 176 cm (sft 9in) tall, with black hair, and blue eyes. Wiki is described as European, of medium build, with brown hair, brown eyes, and also 176 cm tall. Both men wore blue jeans and blue shirts. In the High Court in Octo-

ber, Malcolm was jailed for four years on a charge of assault causing grievous bodily harm. The term was concurrent with one of 2% years imposed on him in August on a charge of stabbing a policeman. Mr Justice Hardie Boys said in the High Court that Malcolm was a menace to the community who had decided to wage war on society. Wiki was imprisoned in June for his part in planning the robbery of the Opawa Post Office on superannuation pay-out day. He was jailed for three years after being convicted on charges of conspiring to commit aggravated robbery, being masked by day

with intent to commit aggravated robbery, and unlawful possession of a sawnoff shotgun. The escape of the two men brings to four the number of escapers who are still at large after escaping from custody in Christchurch.

Intensive police inquiries have failed to find Larry Thomas Geeson, who escaped from Addington Prison on November 14. He was jailed for his part in a gang killing in Christchurch last year. The police also still seek Adrian Mark Masters, who sprinted from the No. 1 courtroom in the District Court on November 16. Masters is not regarded as dangerous.
