Entombed miner ate human flesh
NZPA-AP Taipei A miner rescued alive yesterday from a coalmine where he was trapped for four days told the Taiwan press that he survived by eating the flesh of another miner who died after they were sealed in a deep tunnel by an explosion. In an interview from his hospital bed, Chou ChungLu, aged 56, told the Gov-ernment-owned Broadcasting Corporation of China and other local new media that he sliced flesh from the thighs of three dead miners but ate only from one because the flesh of the other two was putrid. On the first day after the explosion on Wednesday, Chou said, he survived only on water that he gathered from a ground pool. But the next day, he said, he began to fear starvation and he groped about in the dark tunnel for food and bumped into the bodies of the dead miners. £>
