Honorary consuls
PA Wellington More honorary consuls would be appointed overseas, said the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, yesterday. He told Parliament that the results of trial appointments under the previous Government had been satisfactory enough to widen the experiment. “Honorary consuls have been particularly helpful, arranging programmes for non-resident New Zealand representatives and revealing new trade opportunities,” he said. The problem was to find suitable people. Ideally they would be well established New Zealanders. In some cases a non-New Zealand person with wide local contacts would be appointed.
