Candidacy ‘greeted’

PA Wellington The decision of Miss Ruth Richardson (Nat., Selwyn) to stand for the deputy leadership of the National Party was greeted with applause by the Government in Parliament yesterday. The Senior Government Whip, Dr Cullen, said the Government noted “with pleasurable surorise” her candidacy. The Government benches then applauded. Dr Cullen said he considered the move was “to remedy the mischief of a lack of suitable candidates.”
