Zola Budd a Hero

The South African-born runner, Zola Budd, who took British citizenship to compete in the . Los Angeles Olympics, last evening became the first white to win the South African Sports Hero of the Year award, voted for by blacks. Budd, aged 18, received a prize of $l7OO which will be paid into a trust fund. The competition, sponsored by two television channels and a magazine, all aimed at blacks, and a rice manufacturer, attracted more than 33,000 votes.
