Kirk inquiry moves to U.S.

PA Wellington The Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Bryan Davies, confirmed yesterday that a senior policeman went to the United States nine days ago to continue the John Kirk inquiry. Mr Davies said that Detective Senior-Sergeant Bill Bishop was still in California but was due back soon. \ Mr Davies said he could not comment on any aspect of the case until the results of Mr Bishop’s inquiry were known.

“Neither can the extradition question be addressed until . the full inquiry is reviewed,” Mr Davies said. Mr Kirk, the former Labour member of Parliament for Sydenham, was declared bankrupt by the High Court on July 30. He is alleged to owe 35 creditors more than $230,000. He and his wife have been living in the United States for more than four months.
