PA Wellington The US dollar closed more than three pfennigs up on its opening on the foreign exchange market here yesterday. It opened at 2.9440 marks and closed at 2.9760/ 70. Most of the rise occurred during late New York trading.

Dealers said the dollar was well bid all day after strong overnight support for Eurodollars and a poor day in Northern hemisphere credit markets.
