Fight leads to jail
NZPA-AFP Seoul The Peruvian boxing manager, Almando Torres, was yesterday sentenced to a 10-month jail term by a Seoul District Criminal Court for staging a sham world boxing title bout in Seoul two months ago. The Colombian boxer, Joaquim Caraballo Flores, the trainer, Amancio Castro and the Mexican promoter, Ernesto Gallardo, were all
handed suspended sentences and were freed from jail yesterday. The Korean promoter, Chun Ho-Yun, was sentenced to one year in prison. The five men were charged with fraud when it was found that the unranked Flores posed as world-rank-ing Alberto Castro in an International Boxing Federation flyweight title challenge to South Korea’s Kwon Sun-Chon.
