Soccer players ill
NZPA Portsmouth Injury and illness were causing problems for the New Zealand soccer team coach Mr Allan Jones, on the eve of the side’s match against second division Portsmouth. The defender, Keith Garland’s knee has still not completely healed and he was “very doubtful”, Mr Jones said yesterday. Garland though, said he had been for a light run and was optimistic he would be fit for the game. The captain, Allan Boath, who received a nasty gash on his leg during Monday’s match against Leicester City, was also a doubtful starter, Mr Jones said. But the biggest worry facing the New Zealand coach was the striker Colin Walker. Walker, who has emerged as one of the stars of the squad, was suffering from stomach cramps and generally not feeling well, Mr Jones said.
