Bellamys’ cuisine defended by M.P.
Parliamentary reporter
Criticisms made by the Labour member for Horowhenua, Mrs Annette King, about the stodgy food at Bellamys were rebutted yesterday by Mr Rob Talbot, member of Parliament for Ashburton. Mrs King said on Tuesday that she had put on half a stone in weight since joining Parliament in July and attributed the weight-gain to the frequency with which roasts appeared on the menu. She said she would like to see more salads, fresh vegetables, and high-fibre breads. However, Mr Talbot told Parliament yesterday that Mrs King’s criticisms could not be substantiated. He had been eating at Bellamys for 18 years and had maintained a constant weight of HVz stone, he said. He suggested that Mrs King exercise a little more self-discipline in her eating habits rather than publicly roasting the meals.
