8 N.Z.-breds. in Oaks

ALLAN BROWN

in Melbourne Chances of a New Zea-land-bred’s success in today’s big attraction, the V.R.C. Oaks (sAustlso,oQo) at Flemington seem bright with Our Lafite, Trichelle and Tristram’s Girl, among the foremost prospects. Remarkably enough nearly half the field — eight of 18 — are New Zealandbreds, and of these, almost as remarkably, four are by Cambridge Stud’s Sir Tristram. Our Lafite is a brown, by Sovereign Edition from Watch Valdi, owned as well in New Zealand by Messrs Peter and Phillip Vela, and the four Sir Tristrams are Trichelle, the record-priced Trentham yearling, from Taiona; Tristram Rose; Tristram’s Girl and Tristarc.

The other New Zealandbreds going for the big fillies prize are Neliska, by Zamazaan; Remo’s Best by Balmerino; and Poaka, by Auk.
