PA Wellington Alex Harvey Industries, Ltd, announced yesterday that it now held 92.83 per cent of Smith and Smith, Ltd, as a result of its October 22 take-over offer. The necessary consent has also been received under the Commerce Act, on terms and conditions acceptable to AHI. The balance of the shareholders who have not yet accepted are being advised that the offer remains open for their acceptance. Leyland purchase Leyland Growth Ltd, the newly listed investment company, has acquired an 8.1 per cent holding in New Zealand Salmon Company, Ltd. Leyland’s chairman, Mr John Strevens, said since incorporation in July his company had been buying shares in New Zealand Salmon. It now held 284,500 ordinary shares for which Leyland had paid an average of $1.71 over the four months. Southbury move
Southbury Investment, Ltd, of Timaru, yesterday received permission from the Examiner of Commercial Practices to acquire up to 40 per cent of the capital in Brother Distributors, Ltd, the Christchurch business and industrial machines wholesaler. A principal in Southbury, Mr A. J. Hubbard, said that the company had held shares in Brother for 15 years, and that at the moment it held about 20 per cent of the capital. The approval did not mean that the Southbury would be seeking 40 per cent, he said.
