Pixote’ returns
The controversial Brazilian film, “Pixote,” which enjoyed a long run in Christchurch about two years ago, will return to the Academy tomorrow. In the film, a street urchin is taken to a juvenile detention centre. There he quickly learns the basics of survival in the face of rape, murder and police brutality. Despite its brutal subject matter, “Pixote” has been acclaimed for its forthright and sensitive treatment.
