Tax-free dividends

Sir,—With inflation and rising cost of living most national superannuitants, on the benefit alone, are under stress. Thousands more with their life savings in shares producing up to 53000 are just coping. The Combined State Services Union, representing indirectly State superannuitants, has called

for a stop to tax-free dividends. All State superannuitants are on national superannuation and a substantial, taxpayer-subsidised State superannuation. Most admit that they have never had it so good. Tax-free dividends are not Statesubsidised and should not be taxable on lower-income earners. — Yours, etc.,>. A. M. DAWSON. November 3, 1984.
