Cottle replaced
Broken ribs received in a fall at the Carterton Show forced John Cottle out of the invitation team. His replacement is Maurice Beatson (Southern Hawke’s Bay), winner of the Horse of the Year title on Nationwide for the last two years. The only other rider to achieve this was Canterbury’s Ellis Upritchard, on
the renowned Landrover, in the 19505. Beatson was awarded the New Zealand show jumping rider of the year title by popular vote this year. The other member of the Combined team if Brian Costello (North Canterbury), who has been in consistent from recently on Marry Orbit.
