Two hurt in collision

Two persons were taken to Christchurch Hospital after a head-on collison between two cars in Marshland Road at lunch time yesterday. The elderly woman driver of one of the cars suffered moderately serious head and chest injuries and had to be cut out of her car. She was admitted to hospital, but her condition was not

available last evening. The other person, an elderly man, was treated and discharged. The accident happened about 12.30 p.m. on the stretch of Marshland Road between Prestons Road and Lower Styx Road. A Ministry of Transport spokesman said the accident caused “quite a mess” on the road and a build-up of

traffic took about 45 minutes to clear. A boy, aged 13, was admitted to hospital yesterday afternoon after the bicycle he was riding was in collison with a car on Shands Road about 4 p.m. The boy suffered serious head and leg injuries, but his condition was not available last evening.
