Cure Club tops points list in regatta
The Cure Boating Club capped off a good week-end for the Kaiapoi-based club when its intermediate men’s crew took handicap honours in the annual Estuary to Kerrs Reach eights race yesterday. On Saturday Cure had topped the points list in the regatta it held on the Kaiapoi River. Cure finished with 25 points, ahead of Avon (20), Canterbury (12), Union (9), and Christ’s College (1). It ws the first time the Kaiapoi regatta had been held since 1981. Cure won three of the 12 events and was placed in six of the others.
Kerrs Reach was an impressive sight yesterday with 13 crews on the water
for the 7km eights race from the Estuary. The St Bede’s College under-16 crew was the first crew to leave the start and it took line honours. Fastest time went to the Avon senior-premier crew which recorded a quick 22min 38s in the hot, but otherwise helpful copditions.
The St Bede’s College under-17 crew lost its rudder before the first of the bridges and its coxswain, Dave McPherson, did a very capable steering
job in the difficult circumstances. Results:—
