Presentation to Mr Connelly
The former member of Parliament for Yaldhurst, Mr Michael Connelly, was officially bidden farewell by his electorate at a dinner last evening. Mr Connelly retired from Parliament at the July election after more than 27 years as a member of the House. He was the longestserving member of the old Parliament. The farewell dinner was organised by the Yaldhurst Labour electorate committee. The committee made a presentation to Mr Connelly, but at his request most of
the money raised will be given to the Hornby Library to buy a talking-book machine.
Gold badges for long service to the Labour Party were presented to Mr and Mrs Connelly by the High Commissioner-designate to London, Mr Joe Walding. Other speakers at the dinner were the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Moore, and the member for Yaldhurst, Mrs Margaret Austin. The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, was to have attended but he left for India on Thursday morning for the funeral of the Indian Prime Minister, Mrs Gandhi.
