This is a newly established senior position and the appointee must have a law degree, admission to the bar and at least two years general legal experience. The work involves providing assistance to the Office Solicitor in planning, organising and managing the resources of the Legal Section. The appointee will also be expected to provide legal advice to the Minister, Parliamentary Under-Secretary and the Directorate-General of this Ministry. RUAKURA ANIMAL RESEARCH STATION MEAT SCIENTIST A vacancy exists for a Scientist to develop knowledge of factors influencing the quantity of saleable meat in beef carcases and develop methods of carcass evaluation suitable for incorporation into carcase classification systems for export meats giving improved predictions of yield. SCIENCE TECHNICIAN INVERMAY RESEARCH CENTRE VACANCY NO. 7171 A vacancy exists for a Science Technician in the Animal Production Section of the Invermay Agricultural Research Centre. Main duties are the collation and analysis of reproduction, growth and wool records from projects involving highly prolific sheep. A sound knowledge of the sheep industry is required as one of the prolific sheep projects involves considerable liaison with participating farmers through newsletters and field days. Appointee will assist with fieldwork in other sheep projects as required. Skills in computing and reporting on experiments are essential. ROTOMAHANA RESEARCH STATION TECHNICAL OFFICER An experienced technical officer Is required to join the research team involved with long-term sheep breeding studies. This senior position involves supervision of staff and organisation of experiemental procedures, under the control of the Officer-in-Charge and with direction from scientists at the Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre. Duties will involve pasture management, feed budgeting and data collection for a large range of recorded traits. The position offers opportunity for a person experienced in farm management and research procedures to become actively involved in agricultural research of high farmer Impact. AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH DIVISION, HEAD OFFICE TWO SCIENTISTS VACANCY NO. 7165 Duties: To assist the Directorate, Agricultural Research Division, in developing, viewing and co-ordinating Research Programmes for the Division;'to liaise with other Divisions of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Agricultural Industry, other Government departments, and Universities; to contribute to policy formation; to deputise for the Assistant Directors. Location: Head Office, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Wellington. Qualifications: Applications are sought from graduates in science or agricultural/hortlcultural science with post-graduate experience in research or advisory work. A post-graduate qualification would be an advantage. RUAKURA ANIMAL RESEARCH STATION SCIENTIST, SHEEP NUTRITION The position is in the Animal Management Group. It will involve nutrition and management studies of ewes and lambs, particularly to assess the requirements of highly fecund ewes for increased lamb survival and growth rate. Work will also cover the nutritional influence on mechanisms of ovulation and the interaction of grazing management on parasite burden. An Honours degree in Agriculture is required. SUB-EDITOR VACANCY NO. 7169 We are looking for an experienced sub-editor to join our team of Journalists operating the Medialink agricultural news service. The job involves the sub-editing of all copy and its transmission. There will also be opportunities for some writing. Successful applicants are likely to have a minimum of three to four years sub-editing experience. Also desirable are a knowledge of agriculture and experience with computers and telecommunications.
