Belize City
Sir,—l am among the first to admit that Belize City is no tourist paradise, but I found Michael Davie’s article on Belize (October 27) offensive and patronising. It had the distinct ring of having been written by a journalist who had not bothered to step far outside his hotel roorh and certainly had not talked to the people of Belize themselves. His derisory comments on the lack of a railway system and hid i far-fetched attempt to link Belize ta an arms-smuggling route between | Cuba and El Salvador indicate 'superficiality. For a long time, developing countries have been pressing for a new international information order as they feel that the present international media do not give them a fair go. Articles like Davie’s do nothing but back up their claim. — Yours, etc., LYN JACKSON. October 27, 1984.
