P.O. to continue flying ensign

PA Wellington Post Offices would continue to fly the New Zealand ensign, said the Postmaster, General, Mr Hunt, yesterday. Earlier this month Mr Hunt said that he wanted post offices to fly their own house flag as part of a corporate image drive. He said then that the Post Office was a big and proud organisation with its own flag, therefore it should fly that flag. Mr Hunt’s original intention was for post offices to continue flying the New Zealand ensign only if local opinion strongly supported that move. However, he said yesterday that he now considered it more appropriate to continue with the existing practice. “In view of representations from many in the community including the Project New Zealand Society, I accept that it would be more appropriate for the New Zealand ensign to continue to be flown,” he said.
