Future of thar

Sir, — In reply to Mr D. J. Round’s comments on thar, I am surprised by the narrow-mindedness and lack of facts some people have. The precious few thar remaining on the mountains certainly will not damage our watershed. Because of their commercial value for meat export, skins, trophy and sport, there is no possibility that they will ever reach big numbers. Private helicopter crews would relish the chance to lay their hands on some good numbers for a fast buck. They do not need to be paid to shoot thar, they will do it for nothing and even poach them if not allowed. — Yours, etc., ZEFF VERONESE. October 31, 1984.
