‘Starquest’j Sir, — One Can‘Usually dismiss the comments by reviewers in the field of the arts, music and television with amused tolerance if one does not agree with them. At least one can commmend their grasp of the English language. However, I cannot resist countering Ken Strongman’s reference in his column on Radio and Television Page, on Friday, October 26, to the Young Musicians Competition. I quote, “The question that screams for an answer, is why does the ‘Young Musicians’ have to be in the classical mode?” In heavens name why not? Radio and television are thumping hourly, ad nauseam to the beat of rock. "Screams for an answer” indeed! He calls, the ‘Young Musicians’ ' "stepping back in time.” Perhaps it is stepping back into the realm of sanity. Thank heaven we now have a day-long Concert programme where we can enjoy music in the "classical mode.” I don’t consider Ken Strongman’s remarks sacriligeous, they are utter balderdash. — Yours, etc., OWEN R. LEE.
