Shells pelt city

NZPA-Reuter Jakarta At least 13 people died and 22 were injured when a marine arsenal blew up in Cilandak, South Jakarta, said the Indonesian Information Minister, Mr Harmoko, yesterday. A fire in the ammunition dump sparked the explo-

sions on Monday night, he said. The cause of the blaze was under investigation. Rockets and artillery shells detonated by the blaze rained for more than five hours, on the densely populated area surrounding the arsenal in Jakarta’s southern suburbs.

Indonesian and foreign diplomatic sources thought more may have died in the crowded working class districts where flimsy houses were destroyed. Initial- reports from embassies suggested that no foreigners were killed or injured.
