Notifiable disease reported
Another case of the sometimes fatal Legionnaires disease has been reported to the Health Department in Christchurch. There were no further details of the case because the inspector had not yet made a report, said the Deputy Medical Officer of Health, Dr M. A. Brieseman. Another case of the disease was reported in Christchurch six weeks ago. The disease is contracted through dust in the air, and has symptoms ranging from a flu-like illness to pneumonia. The infection was dubbed Legionnaires disease after it killed 26 former American servicemen attending a convention in 1976.
