Optimism over refinery

PA Whangarei The Marsden Point refinery expansion project builder, Marsden Refinery Constructors, now believes it could have the project completed before the March, 1986, deadline. In what has become a regular pat-on-the-back letter to the workforce, the project construction manager, Mr Jack Hardie, said production for this month was 3.86 per cent. In the last four months, which had been free of industrial stoppages, 15.64 per cent of the project had been built. Mr Hardie said the target for the end of the year was 65 per cent of the project completed. “We are on target and can confidently look forward to meeting or beating it,” he said. The average weekly wage for M.R.C. workers during October was $512.
