PA Wellington Destroyers, frigates, patrol craft, and warplanes from Australia, Canada, and New Zealand will take part in a naval exercise off New Zealand in November. Called Tasmanex 84, the exercise in conventional sea warfare will run from November 26 to December 8. Australian naval forces taking part include the destroyer, Perth, the frigate Adelaide, the patrol boats Fremantle and Gladstone, and the submarine Oxley. The New Zealand flotilla includes the frigates Southland, Canterbury, and Waikato, and the patrol craft Rotoiti, Hawea, Pukakai, and Taupo.

Canadian armed forces will be represented by a CPI4O Aurora long-range maritime craft, and will be joined by Skyhawk and Strikemaster jets and Orion maritime craft from both the R.N.Z.A.F. and the R.A.A.F. The ships will meet in the Tasman Sea for the first phase of the exercise, then sail through Cook Strait and up the east coast of the North Island. Surface ships will call at Wellington from November 30 to December 3, and the submarine Oxley will visit Nelson during the same period. The exercise will end with the fleet’s arrival at Auckland on December 8.
