Final cricket match drawn
NZPA special correspondent Harare The fourth and final three-day match between Young New Zealand and Zimbabwe ended in a draw yesterday. The draw means Young New Zealand takes the three day series on the strength of a win in the second match at Bulawayo. The other matches were also drawn. Shortly after lunch yes-
terday the visitors were all out for 364, trailing Zimbabwe’s first innings total by 115. But with time running out another draw looked likely. John Bracewell’s innings of 75 had helped keep the team clear of the follow on. Zimbabwe began' its second innings, hitting hard and losing wickets fast in the process. The opening batsman, Ali Shah, was out on the second ball he faced for a duck and the hardhitting Zimbabwe wicketkeeper, David Houghton, also failed to score. Graeme Hick aged 19, started strongly with 30 runs in 22 minutes but then with tighter bowling from the New Zealanders his rate fell away. Zimbabwe posted 81 for five in two hours before declaring, leaving the visitors 90 minutes to score 196 runs. The lower order batsmen, Gary Robertson and Derek
Stirling, opened but depite their reputations as sloggers the pair could not keep up the required rate of nine runs an over. ZIMBABWE First innings 479 9dec Second innings A.
