Litter problem

Sir,—We in Room lat Phillipstown School are concerned about the litter problem in Christchurch. For the last week, we have walked around the streets near our school picking up any rubbish we saw. We all picked up lots of rubbish — far too much. We want to keep the streets neat and tidy, and help Christchurch to be clean. We can do this by picking up rubbish and putting it into rubbish tins. Other people must do this too. Room 1 cares for our city. Please can we all

clean up? Our motto is “Be a tidy Kiwi for New Zealand. Keep our beautiful city clean.”—Yours etc., B. Graham, K. Westwood, Teachers, on behalf of Room 1 pupils. October 24, 1984.
