N.S.W. horse for Auckland
PA Wellington The New South Wales pacer, Lord Shreik, will race at Alexandra Park in November and December, the Auckland Trotting Club said yesterday. The seven-year-old gelding, unable to run well on left-hand tracks because of ligament trouble, has become known as a right-hand track specialist. Since being taken in hand by the trainer-driver, Neil Freeman, a year ago, Lord Shreik has gained 10 wins, all at right-handed venues, nine at Hawkesbury and the other, the Armidale Cup. For his Auckland campaign, Lord Shreik has been leased by Mr Tony McGrath, formerly a member of the committee of the Metropolitan Trotting Club and now a committeeman of the New South Wales Trotting Club. Mr McGrath has been instrumental in bringing several Australian horses to New Zealand recently, including last year’s New Zealand Chip winner, Steel Jaw.
Lord Shreik has been assessed for New Zealand racing purposes as C 4, and will have eight racing opportunities at the Auckland, Franklin and Thames meetings on the right-handed Alexandra Park track between now and the end of the year. By the American-bred Overtrick horse, Shreik, Lord Shreik is from a New Zealand-bred mare, Little Maori (once named Atlanta), a daughter of Light Brigade and Excelsa.
