Bowrne stable runners go fast in training

If there was any value in yesterday’s training at Riccarton, the stablemates, Donizetti and Chiasso, will be in the cut-up for the third leg of the T.A.B. treble at the Banks Peninsula meeting tomorrow. John Bourne’s pair capitalised on firm footing on the trial grass to return fast times in separate trials. Donizetti scorched over 600 m in 34.15. Earlier Chiasso beat Miss Tryphena Bay and Acacia over 800 m in 46.75, the last 600 m in 36.35.
Julie’s Boy and the promising unraced Young Hawk will be other runners for the Bourne stable at the Banks Peninsula meeting, and good cases could be made
for the chances of both of them. Young Hawk’s training assignment was a sprint on the grass with Salutation as a companion. They finished their 800 m in 49.45, the final 600 m in 36.45. Ariage and Rattle the Sabre, a likely pair for the Peter Jones stable at Motukarara, finished their work by running 800 m in 49.25. They are last-start winners, and appear to have thrived since those victories. Jack’s Lad, which will start a fresh campaign for the Jones stable at Motukarara, came up with 50.7 s for his 800 m. Channel Bay shaped like an improver for the Collins Handicap tomorrow with
her effort to run 1400 m on the plough in 1:31.6, the opening 800 m strongly in 50.85. Her stablemate, Dreamville, got through his 1400 m in 1:34, the last 600 m in 41s, and Pendulyn, another member of the Thistoll team, returned 1:31.3. Binkie’s Pal held a short lead over Frosty Jack after running 1200 m in 1:19.8, the last 600 m in 39.25. Secured Money led Jacqui’s Delight by a length ending 1200 m in 1:22.3, the last 600 m in 39.95. Macho Man and Nearco Park were at three-quarter pace from the 1200 m to the 600 m, but quickened from there in 37.45. Gold Tinge led Huny Bug by two lengths finishing 600 m in 39.65.
