Drug search helped
Information from the public has helped the Christchurch police drug squad seize a lot of cannabis plants recently. The squad’s head, Detective Senior-Sergeant Jim Dwight, said that the police had found 500 cannabis plants in the last three weeks. Earlier this week 80 E- ‘s were seized from one tchurch address. Drug squad detectives would actively seek cannabis plants now that the growing season had started, he said. “It is a little early to tell how the crop will be this year although the weather has been good for growing,” he said. The number of plants seized was up slightly on the figure for the cor-
responding period last year. “Special police operations” would be mounted to find cannabis plots in rural areas.
Detective Senior-Sergeant Dwight said that the drug squad welcomed information from the public about cannabis offences.
