Ajax trading buoyantly
PA Wellington Profit of Ajax McPherson’s Ltd is running 30 per cent ahead of last year, the chairman (Mr K. Pescod) told shareholders. The upturn in demand experienced in May and June for both Patience and Nicholson and Ajax Fasteners has continued into the present financial year, he told the annual meeting. “There are some indications that demand has started to level out, but plant activity is reasonably high.” He said the final profit
for the June 1985 year would no doubt be affected both by events and policies' implemented within New Zealand, and the trends in the economies of the United States and Australia. The Government’s phas-ing-out of export incentives, and granting of wider import licences, would be of direct effect. Ajax McPherson’s was well placed to respond to these changes as management always considered the company’s markets international in nature. The phasing-out of incentives would make the development of export markets more challenging,
