Cricket commentary

A Radio New Zealand sports commentator, Bryan Waddle, will cover the cricket tour of Pakistan by New Zealand which will start in early November. He will step into the shoes of the veteran commentator, Alan Richards, for this, his first major cricket tour assignment. Mr Richards, who will retire in mid-1987, will continue as Radio New Zealand’s number one cricket commentator until his retirement and will cover other overseas and internal tours. Radio New Zealand’s controller of news, current affairs and sports, Mr Chris

Turver, said that in the light of Mr Richards’ retirement in less than three years, it was necessary to start developing a potential successor. “Mr Waddle will cover the Pakistan tour and next year’s tour of the West Indies. He will also be the number two commentator to Mr Richards during next year’s tour of New Zealand by Pakistan. Mr Richards will cover the test series in Australia next year and the tour by Pakistan,” Mr Turver said, “and Radio New Zealand will continue to rely on his commentary skills after his retirement.”
