A cottage for artists
PA Wellington Artists planning to visit Wellington can now apply to stay in the newly restored Rita Angus Cottage. The small cottage in Thorndon in which Rita Angus lived and worked in her later years was bought by -the Thorndon Trust in February. It has since been
restored with help from the Historic Places Trust and the Wellington City Council and has been made available as a residence for artists visiting Wellington. The Rita Angus Residency is a joint project of the Rita Angus Cottage Committee and the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council.
For the next two years the Arts Council will make a grant of $7OOO to support artists over a six-month residency period. For the other six months of the year visiting artists will be able to apply to stay at the cottage for a nominal charge to cover running costs.
