Television crews ban equipment

PA Auckland Television New Zealand camera crews in Auckland are refusing to use electronic equipment, which is leading to delays, particularly in news film. They imposed the ban at midnight on Saturday because of a dispute and will revert to using conventional film cameras. The ban meant it would take longer to process and edit film before going on air, said TVNZ’s public relations executive, Mr Colin Hindson. The dispute is over delays in intergrating the groups who use electronic newsgathering equipment and electronic field-production equipment The Auckland secretary of the Public Service Association, Mr Joris de Bres, said the decision to impose the ban was made six weeks ago and delegates confirmed it on Saturday evening. “TVNZ has said it is prepared to come up with a written proposal. This action is keeping pressure on them,” he said. . TVNZ on Sunday evening offered to meet the P.S.A. on the dispute. Mr de Bres said he would discuss that with TVNZ today.
