Colouring contest

A kewpie doll is the subject of this week’s colouring competition, which is sponsored by the Christchurch Repertory Society. The society will present the play, “Summer of the Seventeenth Doll,” from November 17 to 24. The play is about Australian cane-cutters who work in. Queensland for seven months of the year then go to Melbourne for the lay-off period of five months. One of the cane-cutters brings a kewpie doll as a souvenir for his girlfriend every time he returns to Melbourne. The play is set at the time the cane-cutter is returning with his seventeenth doll. The colouring competition is open to children up to and including those at intermediate school. There are

two sections, under 10 years, and 10 years and over. The Christchurch Repertory Society will provide book vouchers of $lO and $5 for the first and second prize winners in each section. Entries must reach “The Press” by 4 p.m. on Monday, October 29. Results will be published in the “Junior Press” on November 6. Remember to fill in your name, age, telephone number, and address, and have the entry signed by a parent or guardian. Post to: Junior Press, “The Press,” P.O. Box 1005, Christchurch. The competition will be judged by the artistic director of the Repertory Society, Penny Giddens.
