Trade deal no help to Fiji—Senator

Suva A trade agreement, meant to encourage export from Fiji to New Zealand and Australia, is not helping Fiji businessmen, says a Government Senator, Sher Mohammed Khan Sherani. Senator Sherani said the South Pacific Regional Trade and Economic Cooperation Agreement did not mean much because excuses were found by overseas sources to thwart local attempts at export. Senator Sherani said the Fiji Government should in-
vestigate the functioning of the agreement. He said a local firm found that it was difficult to exKrt wire nails manufacred in Fiji under the agreement. The firm was a partnership between Fijian and Indian businessmen. It imported wire and made nails in Fiji for export. Senator Sherani said the company had sent two shipments to New Zealand and Australia but another two shipments were held up because or arguments about the quality of the nails.
