N.Z. life in 1950s

In 1957, Alex Trousdell, at the age of 45, flew to New Zealand to take up a job with a Wellington advertising agency. His wife and family were travelling by sea and were to join him two months later. His first concern was to find accommodation which would serve until they had decided in which area to buy a house and settle permanently. It was all very new and different—even living in a city—because in England he had commuted to work in

London from a small property in the country. Alex Trousdell's first and lasting impressions of New Zealand and New Zealanders are now vividly recalled in a series of short stories titled “The Way It Was,” a very personal and wryly humorous look back at life in the 19505. Over the next few weeks (Monday to Friday except Wednesday) these stories will be broadcast at 8.45 a.m. on the radio National Programme, read by the author.
